April 2011 News at Amarilla Divers.
2nd April 2011. Advanced Open Water Course.
Tabaiba was the destination for today's dives. Chris was completing Deep Dive & Wreck dive for his AOW and Rachel was doing some of her Wreck Specialty Diver. The visibility was great today and there was a fair amount of life on the wreck too.

3rd April 2011. Abades Beach Picnic.
We had a fabulous day out at Abades beach with Snorkellers and divers alike. We had 2 dives here, one on the outer reef and the second on the inner reef. Both were excellent and the visibility was stunning. The water temperature was at 20 degs, so not to cold and everyone had a great day.
4th April 2011. El Puertito.
We welcomed Allan from Scotland today and went off for our first dive at El Puertito with Neil, Billy, Chris & Allan. We found the turtles and they were very photogenic today. This was the first time some of the guys had every dived with Turtles and so it made it all the better.

Yellow Mountain
The second dive of the day was at Yellow Mountain. Chris was over the moon with the rock formations here and the swim was a delight for all the divers. We found a small Angel Shark here too which was fabulous.

Discover Scuba Diver.
Whilst Neil was out diving with the guys, Mary and Rachel were conducting Discover Scuba Diver courses in the pool with Katy & Jack. Both demonstrated great skills in the pool and were very confident. Katy had then to go to work, but Jack went to sea with Rachel & Mary. What a little fish he was was!!! Swimming around with no cares in the world.
Well Done guys.

Night Dive at Abades
Chris was on his first night dive and the last dive of his Advanced Open Water course with instructor Neil. Chris really enjoyed the night dive and said he felt more relaxed than any other dive.
Well done Chris for completing your Advanced Open Water course. We look forward to seeing you later in the year and possibly Egypt in January 2012.

6th April 2011. New Dive Master
We would like to welcome Scott Edwards. Scott will be working hard over the next few weeks to complete his Dive Master Course and Assistant instructor course with IDC Staff Instructor Neil. Scott was going to to do an internship, but would like to pursue a career in diving for the summer season. We will be updating his progress soon.
Today the guys went down to Black Cove Moon Pools for the morning dive with David, Neil, Scott, Billy & Jonny. This was a nice dive for the guys and allowed Scott to get his first taste of Tenerife.

Discover Scuba Diver
Mary & tom was in the pool with Brian & Pauline for their DSD. Brian has had a few go's before at different dive centers, but Pauline had only recent learnt to swim. They both did a grand job in the pool with the skills and Pauline is now contemplating starting the over 60's swim sessions at her local dive center in the UK. You go Girl!!!.

House Reef.
Tom was doing one of his DM workshops, Certified divers in open water. So off we went down to the house reef. The brief went well and the dive itself was good. Tom did a great job and everyone was very happy with their progress.
7th April 2011. Scuba Diver Course.
We welcomed back a couple of our regular visitors to Amarilla Divers. Charlotte & Aaron. Charlotte was here for her PADI Scuba Diver course with Mary, so down the pool we went for confined water 1,2 & 3 with DM interns Rachel & Scott.
The pool session went really well and Charlotte was very confident in the water today. She also managed to complete her tread water and her quizzes. Open Water dives tomorrow.
Advanced Open Water course.
Aaron was back also for his Advanced Open Water course with Neil. Today they went out for Deep & Navigation dive. Also with them was Mick, David, Billy, Allan & Tony.
The dives were good and there was lots to see, we even caught sight of some Large Black Atlantic Rays and Common Rays.

8th April 2011. Boat Dives.
We had a boat full of divers today and went to the EL Condesito wreck & Yellow Mountain Roncadores. We had Neil, Mary, Rachel, Scott, Mick, Billy, Allan, Aaron & charlotte.
Neil was doing Advanced Open water dives Wreck & Boat with Aaron, whilst Mary was doing Open Water dives 1 & 2 in the shallows of the dive sites. The reef were lovely and there was lots of fish for Charlotte to see. As most of our regulars will know, most of the life here in Tenerife is between 10 & 20 meters, so the 12 meter restriction for Charlotte made no difference to the life she saw.
We had 2 great dives and would like to congratulate Charlotte on completing her PADI Scuba Diver course.

9th April 2011. Advanced Open Water courses.
Aaron was on his last dive which was Digital Underwater Photography whilst Tony had just started his course with Navigation. Both guys had a great dive at Abades with Tom & Neil and Tom was over the moon when he 'accidentally' came across a large Tiger Moray Eel. We also found 4 Trigger fish back on the reef which is great.
Pool circuit.
We had our Dive Master interns practicing their skill circuits with mary in the pool. The went very well and the skills were demonstrated nicely. We will be spending more time practicing before the grades are issued.
11th April 2011. Pool session.
We had the Dive Master interns back in the pool for some training. Tom was completing his DSD workshop & Scuba Review workshop for his final part of his Dive Master course.
Rachel & Scott were practicing their skill circuit with Mary. The whole went well and Tom did a great job and was finally signed off as a Dive Master. Rachel & Scott's skills are improving with every session and we are now looking at the scoring session.
Well done Tom, it has been great watching you develop your skills and Knowledge.

Advanced Open water course.
Tony was with us for his Advanced Open water course and so we went to Black Cove along with Allan for a deep dive. Tony was good in the water and managed the timed task well.
The afternoon was spent with Allan, Tom & Scott on the house reef. The visibility was not so great and so it was difficult to find anything!!!.. but it is all good experience !
12th April 2011. Scuba Diver Course.
We was joined by Yennis & Ray for their Scuba Diver course with Mary. The confined work went excellent and the guys managed their skill well. Rachel & Scott were also in the pool to see the skills demonstrated and how students react. We will be out to sea in the morning.
Search & Recovery Specialty.
Jonny &Tom went down the House Reef for some Search & Recovery Specialty. We had them lifting a 10 Liter Tank with the lift bag, doing search patterns and practicing Knots underwater.
The session went well and now only 2 dives left.
Night Dive Abades.
Tony was on his Night Dive for his Advanced open water course with Neil and also Scott, Rachel & Billy went along too. The night dive was good and we managed to find some Spanish Dancers, cuttle fish and the Trigger fish are back on the reef.

13th April 2011. Scuba Diver course.
Yennis &Ray went to Open water for dives 1 & 2. The first was on the house reef and the second was at Abades Beach. We had Rachel, Scott & Billy along for the dives as well. Both dives went well and the guys had a great time. Abades was gorgeous with excellent visibility and loads of life, we even managed to find some Moray Eels and 4 large Trigger Fish.

We also had Jonny & David diving with us and they were just out for some pleasure diving.

14th April 2011. Diving Abades Beach.
We would like to welcome Dan, Tom's Dad for a week of diving with us. The first dive was up at Abades Beach with Allan, Mick, Denis, Rachel, Tony G, Ross, Tom, Dan Neil.

Tony & Ross are back for the Easter break and will be doing a few dives with us.

For the afternoon we had Dan, Tom, Allan, Renatas, Tony G & Neil and the dive was at Jonny's Point. Here were lucky enough to find a nice Angel Shark. This is now late in the season and so was a good find.
15th April 2011. Yellow Mountain
Yellow Mountain marine reserve was the destination for today's first dive. So with Neil, Dan, Tom, Scott & Renatas we went to have a look at the underwater scenery. The visibility was excellent today and the rock formations were great.

San Miguel Wall.
Tom, Dan, Scott & Rachel went off down the San Miguel Wall. The visibility again was excellent down here and we managed to find 3 large Black Atlantic Rays, Common Rays and the Eagle Ray made an appearance on the way back.
16th April 2011. Las Eras.
The visibility here today was stunning and so we had 2 dives on this site. The first was on the deeper side and the second was at the swim through. We had loads of life and the reef was beautiful.

17th April 2011. Dive Master Stamina.
Scott and Neil went for some stamina training. Scott completed his 800 meter snorkel swim and also his 400 meter swim. Well done Scott.
18th April 2011. Poris Beach.
With Larry, Tony G, Tom, Jonny & Neil we went along to Poris Beach for the mornings dive. Again the visibility was great and we had an Electric Ray and a large Butterfly Ray too, yes Mary was again in the shop and is beginning to think they make these Butterfly Ray's up!!!.
There were 2 seperate dives this afternoon. Jonny went to San Miguel wall with Tom, Scott & Larry. Whilst Neil went back to Poris Beach with Rachel, Jaime, Iker & Erik.

Rachel also completed her Dive Master part one exam this morning and managed an excellent 100 %. WOW! Well done Rachel
18th April 2011. Night Dive
Tony G, Ross, Scott, Larry, Rachel, Neil & Jonny went down the house reef for a night dive. Scott has now decided to do his Night Diver Specialty so this was the second dive for him.
The guys had a good dive and everyone had fun.
19th April 2011. Dive Master Training.
We spent a day in the pool with Dive Master candidates Rachel & Scott. We managed to complete skill Circuit with some excellent scores, 2 kit exchanges and some of the DM workshops that are required for the course.
Scott did an excellent job and we are very proud of his progress. Rachel did a grand job in the pool and her kit exchange went very well.
20th April 2011. Poris Pier & Poris Beach.
Larry was back with daughter Melissa so we went down to Poris Pier for our first dive. We decided to try and find some Sea horses!!. Rachel, Melissa & Mary didn't have much luck with Sea horses but still managed to find some big Trigger fish. Neil Scott & Larry however DID manage to find a Sea Horse. Very nice to.
The second dive was at Poris Beach where the visibility was not quite so good as Monday but we did manage to find some Electric Rays, Octopus and loads of other life.

21st April 2011. Discover Scuba Diver.
Erin and her dad Wil had been in yesterday afternoon for a DSD. Erin was having a few problems with the skills so she came back first thing in the morning to see Mary. They went in the pool and Erin did a great job and completed the skills. They then went out to sea with Neil & Scott. Erin had problems with hers ears, so she waited it out and Wil went on to have a dive with Neil.
Well done guys.
Bubblemaker with Anabel.
Our Bubblemaker courses seem to be hit with the holiday children and this time it was the turn of Anabel from Belgium. She was in the pool with Mary & Rachel and had a great time with the games and hoops. The egg & spoon race was gracefully played out and even Rachel was doing a great job !
Well done Anabel we look forward to seeing you in the summer for some more fun in the pool.
Open Water course with Zac & Gary.
Another of our regulars was back this week and he was joined by his son. Gary & Zac were here to complete their Open Water course. Gary is already a Scuba Diver and so will be upgrading, whilst Zac is a Discover Scuba Diver.
Zac (Pipe Cleaner) was in the pool with Neil & Scott for confines 1,2 & 3 and did a good job with his skills. He was then joined by Dad Gary for confines 4 & 5 in the afternoon. Gary has been specially named Princess Leya because of his special mask with ears. Both guys will be back for Open water dives in the morning.
22nd April 2011. House Reef.
Mary & Mick were joined by Lauren & Kaz for a dive on the house reef, whilst Neil Scott, Gary & Zac were doing open water 1 on the house reef too.
Kaz & Lauren were newly qualified in march and asked to do the house reef after snorkelling the site a few times. They wanted to get more experience in warm waters and of shore diving. The house reef had lots of life and the girls had a great time.
Gary & Zac completed their dive and Zac did an excellent job with his buoyancy.

Abades Beach.
The second dive we went to Abades Beach. Where else better than to show the girls and Zac what diving has to offer. The visibility was excellent and the reef was very colourful today. The girls were smiling all the way round and said it was 'the best diving they had done'. Thanks girls x
Zac had a great dive with Gary, Neil & Scott and they found 8 Trigger fish. There was 7 just in a little area altogether. Good dive.
23rd April 2011. Open Water course.
Monica was in to start her Open Water course with Mary & Rachel. We went to the pool for confine waters 1 & 2. All 3 girls could not stop laughing all through out and Monica has even made a new signal underwater... to let us know she is laughing, without getting water in her mask!.
Abades Beach
Neil took a group of divers up to Abades beach this morning. Larry, Lesley, Melissa, Lloyd, Harry & Scott had a fab dive here and the visibility was excellent. The trigger fish were still about and the guys had a good dive. It was nice to have Lesley back in the water too.

Bubblemaker with Louise & Karen
Louise came in originally to buy a set of fins and walked away with a Bubblemaker course too. Louise went in the pool with Mary & Rachel but was also joined by Mum Karen. This was a fantastic session and both girls had a great time. Louise managed to beat mum at the egg & spoon race and did a wonderful job in the water. We now look forward to seeing them both next year. Dad Pete will be in the sea diving with Neil on Monday morning too. A real family affair.
Black Cove
Lesley & Larry buddied up with Neil & Scott for the afternoon at Black Cove. The dive was great and Lesley is doing well with her buoyancy. It was nice to get Larry & Lesley teamed up and now we look forward to more diving with the guys in October.
25th April 2011. Search Recovery Specialty
Mary, Tom & Rachel went to house reef for some Search & Recovery diving. Tom did a great job of mastering his Knots and also the Jackstay search technique. He and Rachel managed to 'find' their lost treasure and lift it to surface with out a problem. Well done guys.
Black cove
Neil was at Black Cove with Scott, Gary, Zac & Pete for Open Water 3. The guys managed their skills well and the dive was nice and easy. The vis was good and there was lots of life on the reef.
House Reef. Open Water 4
Zac, Gary, Scott, Neil, Rachel & Jonny went on to the house reef for some open water training. The skills went well and Gary now only has to remove & replace his BCD at the surface to complete his Open Water upgrade. Well done guys.
We would like to congratulate Scott and successfully completing his Dive Master course with Neil. We are very proud of you Scott and you will be missed round the center.
26th April 2011. Discover Scuba Diving
Mary & Rachel had a busy day with Discover Scuba Diving. In the morning it was the turn of Matthew & Calin. Both guys did a great job in the pool and went down to the house reef for their sea dive. They both had a great time and Matthew is now thinking of doing his Open Water in July.

In the afternoon it was father & son team David & Lewis. These guys were excellent in the pool and their sea dive was good. David had a few problems with his ears but Lewis was a little star.

Black Cove
Kaz & lauren were back for some dives with Neil and they was also joined by Derek. They had 2 dives at black cove and the girls thought it was brilliant. They are growing in confidence every dive and enjoying themselves more to. Derek was with them and he will be back on Thursday morning for some more dives.

27th April 2011. Scuba Diver course
It was girl power all the way this morning with Mary, Rachel and students Victoria & Yulia from Russia. We went in the pool to start their confine water training for their scuba diver course. Both girls did a wonderful job and we are looking forward to taking them to sea.
Abades Outer Reef & Marina Wall.
Neil was joined by Gary, Zac, Tanya & John for 2 dives today. The first dive at Abades was great and the visibility was excellent and the dive was very good.
The Second dive was on the Marina Wall and the visibility here was a nice 20 meter plus.
28th April 2011. Scuba Diver course
Victoria & Yulia were back to complete their PADI Scuba Diver course with Mary & Rachel. The guys did a great job and managed the dives with ease. We are very proud of you both and hope you continue on with your diving in Russia.

Neil was out diving with Lauren,Derek, Kaz & Mick. They went to Poris beach for the morning dive and had a great time. Kaz & Lauren are just happy to get in the water in practice their new found love of diving.
The Second dive was on the House reef and the visibility was excellent to day and there was loads of life out for the girls to see for their last dive.
29th April 2011. House Reef
Tanya, John, Gary, Zac, Derek, Mick & Neil went for a very long dive this morning at 64 minutes WOW. There are NO 20 minutes dives with Amarilla Divers. This was a nice dive with some rather large Barracuda.
Yellow Mountain.
Tanya, John, Gary, Zac, Mick & Neil went along to Yellow Mountain. Tanya said it was 'absolutely sunning' with so many fish about this was a great dive and the rock formations were great.
30th April 2011. Snorkellers.
Neil & Rachel wet down the House Reef with 7 Snorkellers from Ireland. The guys were very eager to get in the water and literally jumped in. They were over the moon with the life they saw and even managed to find some octopus and star fish. Well done guys.
Discover Scuba Diver with Lizzie
Neil was in the pool today with Lizzie for her Discover Scuba Diver course. The skill went excellent and Neil was very impressed with how quickly Lizzie picked it up. They then went down to the house reef where the visibility was excellent. Well done Lizzie we hope to see you back soon.
